Second meal

For Duckie's second meal on Saturday, I decided to go healthy and steamed broccoli florets and carrot sticks. I just cut the broccoli so that it would have a little stem to hold on to and cut each floret in half lenghtwise. I had baby carrots and cut them into fourths lenghtwise as well. I steamed them for about 5 minutes in the micro with no salt or seasonings and then let them cool off for about 10 minutes. That was everyone's lunch that day except that The Kid and I had melted cheese and fruit. This was done more out of a need to get a quick fix lunch together rather than go all vegan or something.

Duckie took to the carrot sticks and broccoli like a champ. He definitely worked on his pincer grasp and had a better idea of what to do with the stuff in front of him this time. He loved sucking on the broccoli and I'm pretty sure that he ate several carrot sticks. But then again, The Kid was sitting next to him and thought it was funny to eat off of Duckie's tray instead of his own plate. Once Duckie was done, he let me know by complaining until I'd taken him off the chair. Yes, there was a mess but I have to admit that I wanted the mess and didn't encourage him to eat cleaner. I guess if you don't like messes, then either don't have a kid (easiest way) or teach the child some table manners from the getgo. I'll have plenty of time once he has conquered his grasp and hand eye coordination to teach him some table manners.

As you can see, I didn't start with one kind of food and waited a few days to present another one. That was all because I'm a dummy and totally let my excitement get the best of me.

Duckie's first food

I brought home some pesto bowtie pasta salad on 6/27 . I decided that it was going to be Duckie's first food since I was so eager to get the experiment started. I set him up in the high chair (first time ever that he sat in it) and took his shirt off. I was anticipating a mess so he was nakey but for the diaper (an aqua Fuzzi Bunz if you must know). I put three or four pieces of the bowtie pasta on his tray and watched. He was first intrigued by the slippery things and gave me a shocked look when he first got a taste. He then decided that it was good and went to town on it. I'm going to post pics when I get home tonite because it was absolutely delish to see him enjoy his food. He did not gag once and did a pretty good job of chewing his food. I ended up putting 6 more bowties on his tray and as far as I could tell, he ate about four. Well, after cleaning him up, getting what fell on the ground and was stuck to his back (don't ask); I had about four unaccounted for bowties and his diaper confirmed it later on.

All in all, it was a hit but I won't be serving that to him anytime soon since I had a greasy mess to clean up. I think that this picture just sums it all up. :)

Check one, two, three...

I heard of this baby led weaning method and liked the way it sounded. I decided to try it out with my youngest boy, Duckie, who turned six months old yesterday. This is just to chronicle my trip down this kind of weaning. For those that aren't familiar with me, let me give you a bit of background:
I'm the different one. I cloth diaper, breastfed my kidlets past three weeks (The Kid until 14 months, Duckie 6 months and counting), try to make healthy organic choices, and gasp! Don't let my kids eat candies and sweets on a day to day basis. To those that know me, especially to The Hubby, they think that if it's crazy/crunchy/green/out of this world, I'll do it. And you know what? They're right. Plus, what good is it to have a kid if you can't use them as your personal guinea pigs? Not really, but it's still kind of fun :)

Pics of Duckie's first meal to come.
